Myopia Control Contact Lenses

Myopia control soft contact lenses work to slow down the rapid eye growth in childhood nearsightedness. They do this by adjusting how images are focused on different parts of the retina at the back of the eye. This part, called the retina, is sensitive to light and helps us see. For clear vision, light needs to be focused accurately on the retina.

When we use regular contact lenses to correct our vision, like ones for seeing far away, the center of what we see is in focus on the retina. But the edges of the picture focus behind the retina. Studies show that this sends a message to the eye to grow faster. This can be a problem for kids with nearsightedness because their eyes are already growing too fast.

The idea behind myopia control contact lenses is to do the opposite. They make the edges of the picture focus in front of the retina while keeping the center clear. This different way of focusing sends a signal to the eye to slow down its growth. This means that if the eye grows slower, the nearsightedness also gets better more slowly.

Whether it's a multifocal lens, dual-focus lens, or Ortho-K lens, Dr. Fong is here to guide you in choosing the ideal lens to address your child's myopia.
